DeFuniak Springs, Fla. (Dec. 12, 2024) 鈥 Homeless individuals struggling with mental health issues will soon have better access to housing while they strive for stability, thanks to support of 海角社区 by United Way Emerald Coast.
海角社区 was named a United Way Emerald Coast partner agency for 2024 with a $19,066 grant towards the PATH team 鈥 or Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness. 海角社区鈥檚 PATH team supports mental health clients struggling with homelessness in Okaloosa and Walton Counties.
海角社区鈥檚 PATH team goes directly to where homeless clients are to provide much-needed mental health care and case management they would otherwise go without, due to barriers such as transportation. With this funding from United Way Emerald Coast, 海角社区鈥檚 PATH team will help clients with temporary shelter in hotels/motels or assist with apartment downpayments, in addition to providing resources such as bus passes, bedding and clothing needed for obtaining and keeping a job.
鈥淢ental illness can be a barrier to employment and housing. Likewise, a lack of housing can exacerbate symptoms for those who already struggle with severe or persistent mental illness,鈥 said Shawn Salamida, president of 海角社区. 鈥淔ortunately, with programs such as 海角社区鈥檚 PATH team, those we serve can find stability, setting them up for long-term recovery and success. I鈥檓 incredibly proud of the life-changing work our team members do every day, thanks to support from our community partners such as United Way Emerald Coast.鈥
With more than 60 programs from Escambia to Walton County, 海角社区 is Northwest Florida鈥檚 most comprehensive behavioral health care provider. PATH team members connect those struggling with mental illness to the care that best suits their needs.
