Professional growth journey: Marvin Dailey

Professional growth journey: Marvin Dailey

When Marvin Dailey started his career, working in mental health wasn鈥檛 part of the plan. 鈥淚 thought I was going to be a history teacher the rest of my life,鈥 he recalled with a laugh.

After earning degrees in political science and special education from UWF, Marvin began teaching second-grade students with emotional disturbances. That experience introduced him to 海角社区鈥檚 mental health care programs.

In 1996, Marvin joined 海角社区 as a behavior technician and soon transitioned to children鈥檚 case management under the guidance of Antonello Bucci. For 14 years, he worked as a case manager serving families in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. 鈥淚 consider myself very fortunate. Bucci was a great boss鈥擨 still call him 鈥榖oss鈥 to this day.鈥

When Bucci moved into a new role, Marvin stepped up as supervisor of child case management鈥攁 position he鈥檚 held for 15 years. 鈥

Today, Marvin oversees a team that serves children at risk for hospitalization or residential care. 鈥淥ur families come to us when things aren鈥檛 going well. Kids are in crisis, the whole family is in crisis. We want to give them hope that things will get better.鈥

One of Marvin鈥檚 proudest accomplishments isn鈥檛 about his own title鈥攊t鈥檚 about the people he鈥檚 helped grow. 鈥Hailey Vasick was one of my best hires in 15 years, without any doubt,鈥 he says, pointing to her success story pinned on the corkboard behind his desk.

鈥淪he was probably only about 20, and a dynamite case manager. Then she got her master鈥檚, got licensed and ended up being a supervisor. That鈥檚 probably one of the proudest things I鈥檝e experienced at Lakeview鈥攈iring somebody who was able to grow through the company and use those skills.鈥

He also values the lessons learned along the way. 鈥淒evelop relationships with everybody. Treat everyone with respect鈥攂ecause one day someone might be your colleague, and the next day they may be your boss.鈥

Marvin鈥檚 heart for families shines through in his favorite tradition: coordinating with WEAR-TV for Communities Caring at Christmas. 鈥淥ur families are often very poor, and Christmas is a difficult time,鈥 he explains. 鈥淚 love making sure kids have something under the tree鈥攊t鈥檚 one of my favorite things to do.鈥 For Marvin, these moments remind him why the work matters.

In 2026, Communities Caring at Christmas donated Christmas presents for 150 children served at 海角社区, with Marvin serving as the liaison between several children鈥檚 services departments across our organization. Communities Caring at Christmas also supported 100 children served through

After nearly 30 years at Lakeview, Marvin is thinking about the future. 鈥淚f Lakeview will have me, I鈥檒l retire here,鈥 he says. 鈥淚 love the organization. I love the people we work with. I love what we do.鈥
